High temperature wool and glass wool products – lightweight insulation for temperatures up to 1800 °C

Due to their low mass, accumulated heat and thermal conductivity, high temperature wool (ASW/PCW) and glass wool (AES) products are efficient insulating materials up to temperatures of 1800 °C. Considering current and future energy costs, amortization can be realized in a short time.
Each of the product types combine to create the most versatile product portfolio on the market. Their characteristics and performance capability enable us to design the very best system features and performance into the most cost effective package for each individual engineered insulation solution.

Mineral wool (boards and loose wool)

Glass wools are made from glass melts and produced by drawing, blowing, and centrifugal spinning. Glass wool products are specified up to 500 °C and even up to 750 °C for special compositions. Mineral wools are made by remelting slags and rocks in a furnace. The melt is then fiberized by blowing or centrifuge. Application temperatures vary with composition and range from 600 °C up to 750 °C.

High temperature wool (HTW)

These are earth alkali-silicates with application temperatures between 850 °C and 1200°C according to the thermal and chemical stresses of the application. High temperature wool products can be used effectively as insulation materials to temperatures as high as 1800 °C. Once the mineral and glass wools have been manufactured, further processing is necessary to turn them into the range of mats, boards, cloth, paper, and shaped parts and cords that make up our range.
Fibre matrix products

Textiles (cloth, tapes, sleeving, ropes, cords)

The raw fibre is the basic product for delivery but this (including high temperature grades) can be further processed to create a versatile range of forms and shapes.

Boards and shaped parts are made by a low pressure process where binders are added to the basic materials. By varying the classification temperatures of the wools and also the binder content and specific gravity, a wide range of product specifications are obtainable. Prefired shaped parts are distinguished by low shrinkage.

Papers are produced in a wet process by adding organic and chemical binders and additives. During the process, particles that are not fiberised can be separated by elutriation using a reverse direction flow of gas or liquid through the mix. By doing this, insulation properties and material handling are improved.

Wet felts are supplied in plastic foils. These are particularly useful in applications with a complicated geometry and harden and set as they dry.

The addition of organic carriers, glass and metal fibres to the basic raw materials allows the production of sealing cords, tapes, sleeves and hoses.
