Promat HPI compact solutions in the structure of energy efficient buildings
There is often a problem when increasing the energy efficiency of the structure of a building by up-rating the insulation performance. Simply adding extra insulation thickness to the external wall can cause a reduction of available light through windows.

The effective solution is the use of a “superinsulation” such as Microtherm SLIMVAC® vacuum insulation panels which can be between 4 and 8 times thinner than conventional building materials for an equivalent performance. When used in a protective laminate with mineral wool or a similar material, the "U value" ( overall heat transfer coefficient) of the wall can be dramatically reduced. Microtherm SLIMVAC® can also be used in doors, windows, and in the construction of glass facades of large commercial buildings.

Other parts of a building that can be made more energy efficient by the use of a Promat HPI insulation solution include fireplaces, annular chimneys and heating flues.

Combinations of the PROMAFOUR® system, PROMASIL® boards, and DALFRATEX®  and PROMAFLEX® rope are widely used in modern fireplace design.

MICROTHERM® granular products and overstitched and slatted products, as well as MICROTHERM®-MPS and PROMASIL® segments can make all annular chimneys and flues both safer and more energy efficient.

Promat HPI – a long term solution for every problem
When considering insulation for building structure applications where stable performance over many decades is specified, the ability of Microtherm SLIMVAC® panels containing our silica based microporous insulation core to maintain a low thermal conductivity over a wide range of core pressures ensures guaranteed dependability without the need to include a chemical getter. Excellent energy savings in buildings are possible using a Promat HPI insulation solution.

Promat HPI solutions for other areas where  heat loss can occur are also totally stable over very long working lives. Annular chimneys and heating system exhaust flues can be a safety problem when routed outside the building. Accidental contact can result in a serious burn. Excessive surface temperature can also be a fire hazard with building components such as a thatched roof. MICROTHERM®-SUPER MINTHERM is chimney insulation in powder form. Once it is consolidated in the annular cavity it will not deteriorate or shake down further. 

Likewise, MICROTHERM® flexible panels, and MICROTHERM®-MPS and PROMASIL® segments, are totally stable over extended periods of use.

The structure of the building incorporates very high efficiency advanced window technology, and, of course, the use of superinsulation in the form of Microtherm SLIMVAC® panels on all walls, floors, and roof spaces.

Application solutions

Flat roofs and terraces

SLIMVAC® vacuum insulation panels incorporated into the multi-layer floor/roof construction to optimise energy loss control. The compactness of the insulation eliminates an excessive difference in floor level between inside and outside.               

Flat roofs can be insulated with SLIMVAC® panels above a vapour barrier. The SLIMVAC® panels are normally covered with 12 mm of polyisocyanurate (PIR) and are simply glued to the surface. The roofing sealant is then glued to the insulation as well.
Pitched roofs

With SLIMVAC® vacuum insulation panels it is possible to insulate the top floor without the need for thick insulation layers under the roof.

For pitched roofs, the SLIMVAC® panels are placed between timber slats which are fixed on the inside of the roof. After the installation of the vapour barrier, a finishing panel (gypsum, calcium silicate or woodfibre boards, laths, etc.) can be fastened to the slats.
External walls

Microtherm SLIMVAC® vacuum insulation panels applied to the external walls together with other materials to optimise the insulation performance of the wall structure. The addition of the superinsulation to the building walls creates a dramatic improvement in the overall thermal efficiency with a substantial reduction in heat loss from the building structure. The insulation is simply bonded into place and covered with a surface render or other protective covering.
Doors and window frames

Microtherm SLIMVAC® panels fitted between the facing materials on doors together with thin flexible sheets of Microtherm® fitted into the frame structure to prevent direct heat bridging from one side to the other. The Promat HPI solutions for doors and window frames improve thermal efficiency without adding excessive bulk. They also ensure that the door weight is kept as low as possible.
Glass facades

Supplementary insulation to glass facade elements
Microtherm SLIMVAC® panels fitted within the glass elements for optimised thermal performance. The ability to insulate the glass facades of modern buildings to a similar level of thermal efficiency to the main structural walls results in a clear improvement to the overall thermal performance of the building with an appropriate reduction in heating costs.
